About Us

The Russett Players were formed in 2012 by our late founder Marylin Apps, with the express interest in putting on a community production of Under Milk Wood to commemorate the anniversary of Dylan Thomas's death.  We have since evolved as a society and are currently moving on to new projects. To find out about our next production, keep an eye on the "What's On" section to find out more or contact us to be added to a mailing list.

The ethos of the society is one of community, and we typically perform two productions a year, one being a community production.  This means no matter your skills, we will find a place in the production for all who audition.  This could be a walk on part, back stage or even helping with sound and lighting.  Community means community and we welcome all newcomers from the village and surrounding areas.

The Russett Players are proud to be members of NODA, the National Operatic and Dramatic Association, who were established in 1899.  NODA supports and champions amateur societies such as ours with advice, workshops, training and resources. www.noda.org.uk

Top West End and Broadway theatre director visits East Peckham’s Russett Players

We were delighted to welcome acclaimed theatre director Jeremy Herrin, who visited the group to speak with our members of the youth workshop about his career and experiences in theatre. Jeremy shared insights and answered questions from the group about his journey from directing his first production at school when he was 17, to how to deal with more challenging famous actors.

During the visit, Jeremy also discussed his work on major productions across the National Theatre, RSC, the West End and Broadway and encouraged young participants to pursue their creative ambitions. The session proved to be an invaluable opportunity for the group’s emerging performers to learn firsthand from one of Britain’s leading theatre directors.

Dave Francis, Russett Players Chair, said "We’re truly honoured to welcome Jeremy today (11th January) and benefit from his incredible expertise. His passion and commitment to theatre are inspiring, and we’re deeply grateful that he took time out of his busy schedule to speak with our youth workshop. Who knows—one day, one of these talented young people might audition for Jeremy or even follow in his footsteps."
